Project: Missing fonts on the printer's computer!
Purpose: See what happens when you (the graphic designer) give (or do not give) your project fonts to the printer. These are the fonts you used in creating your graphic design.

Do This: 1. Print* this page and 2. read it carefully. 3. Send Mr. Ruez an eMail to confirm that you have completed this assignment AND ask any questions that you need help to understand. Cut and paste this address into your mail program    paul@ruezart.net

Look at the font the graphic designer used for the headline in the ad below. Something is not correct. In class we talked about the need to give the printer the fonts you are using. If the printer does not have your fonts, the printer will use another (default) font. You can see that this "other" (substitute) font it is not what the graphic designer wants.

Look closely at the ad below. This ad was printed in the North County times one day after the ad on the left. Did the font used in the headline work for this ad? Yes, BUT look closely at the drop shadows. What's wrong with the drop shadows?

When you give your work to the printer, put your project files into a folder named with your project's name. Put your FONTs folder Inside this folder. Also put a WORD.doc in this this folder and give your printer instructions and list your name and ALL phone numbers where you can be called if/when there is a problem. If posible, be there when your job is being printed.

Meet with your printer before starting your project. Ask him or her how to set up you files in Photoshop to best print on their equipment. Put your fonts in a FOLDER and name it FONTS and give it to your printer with your image files INSIDE your project folder. For extra protection, have the printer run a proof print for you to approve before printing your project.
